Course Description

Trigger points, myofascial pain and central sensitization: A practitioner's field guide. This one-day course will explore the 2 key competing theories on the development and maintenance of trigger points. With a combination of hands-on assessment / treatment skills, and a healthy dose of theory and research, participants will gain a new confidence in decision making for patients with all types of orthopaedic conditions. In addition to a solid paradigm for effective assessment and treatment, this course will help you master the manual skills you need to treat myofascial pain without the use of needles. The course manual is provided in the form of a "field guide", including key information about a selection of key muscles and trigger points. In the spirit of a naturalist making observations in the field, there is room for the participant to record their observations and notations for each key muscle throughout the day. This unique 'workbook' style is designed to reinforce learning and retention. Instructor: Jeff Begg. Jeff is a Fellowship-trained manipulative physiotherapist with more than 25 years of private practice experience in both the US and Canada. In 2014 he qualified as Edmonton’s first CPA-certified Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist (MSK). Over 20 years as both a Clinical Lecturer and a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Alberta, he has mentored numerous PT students and post-graduate physiotherapists. Jeff has been effectively managing myofascial pain and trigger point pain without the use of needles for his whole career.
